Is polishing a new car bad for clearcoat?

My car is nearly 1year old and has minor scratches and swirls. It also has some clay markings after the clay job I just did.

In my arsenal I have Poorboys SSR 1, 2, and 2.5 as well as Optimum Polish.

I have LC pads white and orange.

What combo should I use. I don't want to take off too much clearcoat.

Is there any fear of taking off too much clearcoat on a new car? How often is polishing ok before too much is removed?

i am a biassed optimum fan, so why not give OP a try first, on a white pad. Nothing ? Ok, then bump it to an orange pad. nothing ? ok, now you can start using your most agressive ssr on the same pad - put a tad of OP in there too, will help lengthen the working time, keep dusting down. (i dont know if ssr line dusts, no personal expierience with it, but many people here use it - but I have never had Optimum dust)

finish with your optimum on the white pad

i would try spreading with the usual speed 4 and work product down at speed 6

I would not worry to much about your clear. Just dont go polishing your car every week.

if you polish 2-3 times a year you should be fine, just make sure to use the least aggressive product first...

Is Optimum with an orange pad too aggressive? Can Optimum with the white pad take out most of the marring with a little work?

you wont know until you try, but OP on a white pad would not be the best, least agressive way to start, given what you have . . .

Are you using a PC or rotary? If you are using a PC, you should not worry about removing too much clear, or damaging the clear. If you are using the OP, the more aggressive the pad, the more the cut. You may have to follow an orange pad with a white pad.

Using a PC. I tried the SSR 1 with the white pad and didn't get all of the swirls out. I think I am going to try OP with a white pad and see what type of results I get. Thanks for the info.
