Do I need a rotary? really confused!! PICS.

Hello~ its my first post on 'machine polishing' forum

I am totally confused with this PC 7336 i have....

its not doing what I expected.. I have LC orange, yellow, white and OHC, OP, 1zUltra.

I have tried every possible combo and pressure today.

it did fine job(not perfect) on swirls.. took like 3~4 passes(about 20~30 min of work) on

3~4 inch long light scratch (ones you cant even feel it with finger), yet didnt come out

perfectly, and didnt do any good on stone chips (also cant feel it with fingers) on my hood.

I spent about an hour going through this forum..and here is what I got

well anyways.. here are questions!!

1. I am trying to save every penny since I have spent too much already.... looks like hitachi one has the lowest price.. on ebay for about $120 shipped to canada. (there will probably be duties.) anything cheaper than that?

2. If I choose to go with hitachi one. can I use my PC pads? or do I have to get a backing plate to use PC pad?

3. Would I still need PC7336? in other words.. would rotary create something that need to be taken care with 7336? or is there any work that can only be done by 7336? I am only going to use zaino lines as LSP and maintenance, so I guess I wouldnt need 7336 for sealant applications..

4. I am not fully experienced with machine polishing work yet.. is it that tough to learn how to use rotary? as compared with 7336? I have seen on this forum that you really have to 'try' to mess up paint with rotary.. good? or bad information?

5. are rotaries(specifically hitachi one) much louder than 7336? I am using my 7336 in underground parking places in my apartment.. any quite rotary as compared to others?

6. can followings be taken care with rotary? they are not noticable with finger with eyes closed.

I never think of polishers (of any kind) as a solution to pitting/chipping. You might try wetsanding but IMO that'll thin the surrounding clear too much...it's pretty much the sort of thing I live with until I can't stand it and then I have it painted. That strange/water mark isn't coming out IMO, it looks like a classic case of clearcoat failure.

You can do some pretty serious correction with the PC and 1Z Ultra if you use 4" pads. I'd get some Hi-Temp Extreme Cut and put a little bit of the Ultra on the pad along with it (the Ultra increases the work time). This is a pretty aggressive combo and while it's not a rotary it *will* do a lot of work. If you haven't used 4" pads yet IMO you'll be impressed by them. The extreme cut will be handy if you get the rotary anyhow

The number of passes you're doing, and the amount of time you're spending don't sound excessive to me but yeah, the rotary will speed that up dramatically (maybe too dramatically if you don't watch what you're doing

).

I'd absolutely keep the PC. Most people get at least light holograms with the rotary and the PC is a simple way to get rid of them.

Personally, if it were my vehicle and I were in your shoes, I wouldn't get the rotary at this point. If you want to spend some money consider getting the chipped/pitted/etched panels repainted and then keep them nice with the PC. Get the 4" pads and some good product (e.g., the H-T EC) and work on wash technique so you don't re-instill the marring or make it worse.

I recalled canadian tire selling two models of PC.. one of them was 7424.. and didnt know what other one was for until today, found out it was 7428!!

and I have known by my past experience that it was beautiful place where you can return products with no questions asked. So I ran into the store right after class. bought it for $230 (about 200USD)

it came with velcro backing plate it was the exactly the same size with the LC pads I have. wasnt flexible.. but whatever I was so excited and gave a try immidiately.

first impression at speed 1. much harder to control -> wasnt doing anything with OP+white pad combo... so switched to more aggressive combos and speed..

results... i felt it was more effective in removing swirls (faster).. but finish was somewhat odd, with lights reflected to strange direction (micromarring I suppose?).. MADE two spot burnt on side panel as I was just trying to get my pads flat onto surfaces (which was hard) without noticing what edge of the pad was doing to curved up side of the panel.

lessons.. I am too noob for this yet.. I will stick with 7336 for another couple more years.
I will just try 4' pads for now.

The rotary should be on sale for $200, it has been on sale for 3 months!

accumulator// I just placed an order of backplate + 4inch pads.. would HTEC really make any difference? compared to OHC or 1zUltra? and any other place to order it other than Topoftheline?
they only ship via UPS which is known to charge heavy duty...

HTEC is more agressive than OHC, but not by a lot. I wouldn't place the order from TOL unless it's really worth it. My last order with them was $99.86 and UPS charged me $61 in brokerage.

Not having used OHC I can't say, but I do find the H-T EC a lot better for sorta-serious correction than 1z Ultra, and I'm pretty familiar with that one. Dunno about anywhere other than TOL though...yeah, that sounds mighty expensive

Those "water marks" are caused by birdshit sitting on the paint for a week or so...
