Question Makita polisher 9227 C question

I finally put my trusty Dewalt 6138 out to paster and replaced it with a new Makita 9227 CY polisher varible speed. I just got the polisher to day and have had no time to use it . Its first detail is schedual for tomorrow. I was very impresed by the weight how light it was 6.6 pounds and having the speed controll and speed map decal to tell you were your power is nice.
I also got a toot bag frre to store the polisher when not in use and when it is required for mobile jobs . I read this evening when home I received the mail and a subscription to one of the auto tech magazines I receive a promo Makita is doing with this polisher when you order it under 9227 CX4 kit. You get gloves and a Ms Makita calender with toot bag . I can skip the calender and thee gloves .
My real reason for this post is I got intrested to visit Makita's web page . Wen I put in 9227 CY I got two polishers that look like they have the same specifications . One has a conventional side handle ans the other has the cross over handle that goes over the head of the polisher , which is what I have.
What is the difference in the two?
Also what accessories are new like backing velcro pads and foam pads that will work well for this polisher.
I appreciate the feed back.

i believe the only difference (same machine) after the 9227 (cy, cx3, etc..) is the accessories it comes with...

Yeah, I think one comes with a duffle bag and one doesn't or something.

When I bought mine, it came with both handles, the bag, and a plastic tube to help center pads.

Cool First job for the Makita 9227

Broke in the new Makida today on a Fox chassie 1991 Fox Mustang GT polar white. The car had been painted and need some swirl mark correction. So I put the Makita into action to see how she manuevers VS my old Dewalt.

At first I was using the #M backing plate which decided to separate it self from the machine , Not damage but I am pissed at good money down the drain as 3m is expensive and I intend to let them know my discontent.. I when for the Meguires 6 inch foam pads and backing plate yellow foam for medium cutting and beige for finishing polishing . Much better results except for the fact that I had to get my Matavo out to get around the rear trunk spoiler and finish the rest by hand were the small polisher could not go.

At 6.6 pounds the Makita is very versital takes getting used to but once dialed in there is good ballance and power .I never saw redline 3000 RPM no need I varied it between 1000 and 1500 to get a nice clear finish no need to smoke the clear coate finish.

I ended up taking off the sisssy bar and switching to a side handle option being around machine polisher since 1970 I guess I got used to the handle and my right hand doing some ballencing at higher speed were room premitted.

Over all I cannot comment yet on my feeling with only one run . I suspect with time premitting ,durability and craftmanship the Makita 9227 polisher will show what the designers at Makita tools built into this machine.
Future articles to come.
