coleman 4k rpm orbital polisher use?

i'm an average car detailer, not professional

anybody using that Coleman 6" orbital 4000 rpm buffer?

any opinions on it? is it economical for a guy that just
works on his own vehicles?

can it hurt my car finish quickly?

It can't do too much damage to your finish but it also won't do much for you beyond putting a coat of wax down. It doesn't have the "umph" to do any real paint correction. It just doesn't have the amperage needed to stand up under a load and actually remove swirls. If you haven't already purchased it I would tell you to hold on to your money until you can afford either a Porter Cable (PC) or an equivalent, a Cyclo or a quality rotary and gain the necessary instruction to use a rotary properly (even this isn't rocket science). If you have already purchased it see what you can do about getting your money back. If you already own it and have done so for awhile you might find that it is somewhat quicker to lay an even coat of wax down though I doubt you will see an actual benefit.

I second what Gearhead said. It will certainly not do any damage, but you can't use it for polishing either...all it's good for is putting down an even layer of wax.

If you can find it, look for the Black and Decker Firestorm FS4000ROS Random Orbital Sander. It's probably heavier and less refined than the PC, but for the most part all its characteristics are similar to the PC. It's only $50 at Lowes and has a built-in velcro backing plate so you don't need to buy one. Do some reading about the PC and polishing/compounding before you buy it though (click "learn!" at the top of the page)
