What to start with for a machine n00b? Black Trans Am..

Ok.. recently had some body work done. Two of the panels the guy painted are really hazy. I think polishing may cure them.. if not I'll have him reclear those two panels. The DUMB thing is... the rest of my car looks WORSE than when I gave him my car. There used to be MINOR swirls everyway... now there are MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR swirls EVERYWHERE. Needless to say I'll never pay the same guy for any work again.

Anyway it's black trans am, though I may use the supplies to work on some other cars too. I was planning on getting a PC 7424, but I wanted some advice as far as what pads and products would work well for a beginner. I saw one guy on here that used like... Poorboy SSR 2.5, then some Menzerna product, then Klasse AIO... but you all have such varied product usage and I am just not familiar with these products... best it's been for me in the past is Zaino Z2 and Z5, but now I HAVE TO GET RID OF THESE SWIRLS!!!

Finally... is there a way to tell by looking if the hazed panels are just polished with too rough a grit and can be fixed or whether it is a clear coat flaw?

A lot going on in your post here I'll try to project my thoughts as to what I like to use. And first off, let me be clear...there are many ways to "skin a cat", i.e. detail/polish a car. Many people have products they like or are used to...mainly because they used it and they like it. That's a big part of using something that works for you - someone else can't specifically say what will work for you and what you will enjoy seeing. Again, I will try to project what I like...

I personally like the Poor Boy's line of polishes. They seem to do the job just right. I have a black car, and this is what I accompished with using JUST poorboys and a little Collinite wax: http://autopia.org/forum/showthread.php?t=72714 More is explained on that thread of the process.

If you like Zaino, stay with Zaino and experiment with them. Otherwise, choose something else. Look in the reviews section for what people are liking right now, that should give you a good idea where to start too!
