i would pass, others have commented that it bogs down, the one i highly recommend from Hf has been discountued but second in line is this one second option it comes with a more powerful motor longer life plus lcd to view rpm...look to see if they carry this at one of your local HF and use there discount coupon i think i saw it at 20% off but for in store use only...but i definetly would save the money and get a hitachi for the price of two hf rotary....it definetly worth it imho....

plus i notice the PC goes upto 6k opm and this guy only 3k.

rotary or orbital though? described as polishing/sanding i would assume they are orbitals no? rotary polisher is more of a grinder.

for the $50 plus i would rather save up and spring for an ebay porter cable i guess.

if only i could find a killer deal on the dual function makita.. grr..

that first one you linked to SUCKS!!!! I tried it and it was a waste of the 20 I spent on it...on sale....

it would bog down at the slightest pressure, then all of a sudden jump back up to speed. Even if you set the speed low, it would still spin at its fastest...

Chicago eletric tools = junk IMO (this isnt the first tool I have used from them either)

You link a rotary in your first post which is alot more powerful then a pc...yes a pc goes 6k opm but does not necessary mean more power due to it orbital head v. a rotary is 3k rpm....it sounds like you have not used either of these machine in that cause i suggest a pc da to start off with its allot safer and bubba proof, then using a rotary can cause some seriuos damage to paint....

I have a very similar rotary from HF.. I think it has the exact same specs, but the housing is a tad different. Although maybe it is different as the variable control on mine definitely controls the speed, unlike the one toyotaguy used.
Since every post I have seen has suggested 1000-1500 rpm, I don't care if it is overrated and cannot achieve 3000 rpm.

I have some Edge 2000 pads and adapter coming early next week and will be trying it out then. I was going to get a more flexible urethane backing and some pads but realized for about $10 more I could start off with Edge 2000. Sounds nicer to me
I'll post back to let you know what I think after I give it a go.

Dont buy the chicago rotarys. They do not have any torque and arent very useful on cars.
