Can someone explain hazing to me

what does it look like? (In other words, should I be seeing literally a "haze" in the paint?)


Does anyone have a picture of what hazing looks like?

Hazing is just a high number of very fine scratches...so fine that you see more of a haze in the paint, rather than individual scratches. It's like a cloudy film on the paint surface, preventing sharp, deep reflections.

look up the user black yukon (BLK_yukon is the exact name iirc). He did a nice writeup of how to polish with a PC. One of the pics is really nice and shows some hazing.

The severity can vary but it's usually caused by an aggressive polish or if you don't break down the polish enough

Here is an example of light hazing - the kind that only can be seen on dark or black cars in direct sun or halogen light:
