Finally took the leap

after reading just about every post on this forum I found that there are many like me - PC/DA owners ready to make that leap into the rotary world. Surprisingly not a whole lot of horror stories about using a rotary which encouraged me even more.

So, I have my Chicago Electric from harbor freight on its way and a 5" (4 3/4" actually) velcro flexible backing plate from autogeek on its way. I really wanted to go makita or DeWalt and while price wasn't the issue, justifying the amount of times I'll use the thing (3-4x yr) with the cost made me go with the CE rotary. I have 8 foam Sonus pads already for my PC/DA so I'll wear those out before I make the next leap - going to the large pads.

Thanks everyone for all your help. With any luck I wont be making any posts about burnt paint, lexus badges flying off or wipers being torn off LOL.

I used my CE rotary yesterday and found the following:
1. It is relatively loud (as compared to the Makitta)
2. It does bog with the addition of pressure
3. It gets the job done, although I would rather it didn't bog down with pressure
4. I felt like I had to attack the panels with a slight pad angle (i.e. not flat like most recommend)
5. There's no chance of burning the panels if you have the least amount of common sense however, like I said before, this machine will bog and therefore does not produce the same quality of heat as the Makita.

All- in- all, I'm satisfied with the rotary. It is loud, which is something i really hate. It does bog which is bothersome when trying to learn good technique, but it gets the job done, which is most important.
