Do I even need a LC Orange Pad?

I already have many yellow, white, and black LC pads, do I really need the orange? From what I understand, they are less abrasive than a yellow but more than a white.

Your understanding is correct. I normally use my orange with something like Menzerna IP. Actually i find i hardly use the yellow pad. They are very aggressive, i only use stricly for compounding.
For maintaince on my own vehicle i don't even use the yellow pad.

I would say yes you need the orange pad. I never touch a cutting pad anymore. I find I can get the worst of the defects out with an orange and it leaves a better finish than the yellow pad. You always want to use the least abrasive method to correct your problem.

The orange pad is real aggressive, and stiff as a board. I would only use it for paint that's real f'd up. Otherwise a white polishing pad and some 3M FCRC should take care of most defects.

edit: I am referring to the Sonus Orange pad, didn't see the LC in the title

I love the orange pad, I find it perfect for dark cars when I use #83 or SSR2.5 then I usually follow up w/ something lighter


or I go right at it on light colored cars.


Orange pad is my favorite right now, but that may change w/ some propel pads I have comming

Exactly what he said!!
I used the orange pad on my black car and it was just what the Dr. ordered. I have 2 yellow pads that I have yet to use. I'm glad I went to the orange pad first, if I used the yellow pad I might have been sorry. I also have a 4" orange pad which works nicely for small areas and spot defect work.

Agreed - I find the DAS Orange to be really stiff and pretty difficult/uncomfortable to use. Are all light cutting pads this stiff or are there alternatives? A light cud pad with the same texture/stiffness as a DAS green would be great.
