Need advice on 1984 Corvette

I'm going to be detailing a 1984 Black Corvette this weekend and I've never buffed a Corvette before. Since it's fiberglass, do I need to know anything before I start buffing??? How hard is the clear coat? Does it have clear coat? Is this going to destroy my pads? Please help!

If you start to polish and see black on your pads then it dosen't have clear..
I would of course wash first ,clay then start with a mild polish and pad to see how that works,if your getting what you want they stay with that combo,if not move up in either pad or polish or both.Don't know if a 84 vett has clear or not.I would think others will drop in and post up.

Re: Need advice on 1984 Corvette

pretty sure it will not have a clear unless its been repainted...I think in 90 or so most everything went b/c, but prior most was single stage, no clear

If single stage, I would use the meguiars lineup of 83 and 80 as they flat out work on single stage wonderfully! Other products will gum up rather quickly on you - menzerna did for me! it will "destroy pads" = stain them, but they are still useable as long as the color doesnt run on your next car! I would wash them a few times! the red single stage car I just did took three washes to clean, but the pads are still stained!

make sure to post up some pictures!

Re: Need advice on 1984 Corvette

Thanks guys! It might be 2 weeks before I get the car to do. The owner's going on vacation for 2 weeks and he doesn't drive it in the rain so today is out of the question.
