Do i have to strip the wax? or will the polish do that?

I want to start doing minor paint correction on my vette. It has wax on it now. Do i have to use dawn or some type of wax stripping wash on the car before i start polishing? Or will the abrasives in the polish combined with the cut of the pad remove the wax?

The polish will remove the wax, but sometimes the wax residue will cause the polish to clump up and foul up pads. The only one I've really had a problem with is Collinite. I wipe the car down with IPA twice before polishing if it has Collinite on it.

yes, isopropyl alcohol.

I agree with wfedwar, but I do an IPA wipe down before polishing regardless of what wax or sealant is on the paint. Just don't like waxes mixing with my polish.

Is that straight alcohol or a 50/50 mix with water?

I've got like 10 coats of Klass SG on mine.

Heavily layered KGS is one case where I'd definitely strip it first (voice of experience).

Straight, undiluted IPA, with a decent dwell time, might do it OK but it'll probably take a few applications.

But I gotta ask....with all that KSG on there, why are you gonna redo it? Sounds like it's all ready to get through the winter to me.

LOL, it is! But it was never properly polished - it's got some swirls, spots and spider webs.
AND I just got my first PC!

The paint really shines and has great reflectivity with the 10+ coats of SG and one of Wolfgang DG, and I'm very tempted to let it go till spring, but that darn machine and those scratches are calling me.

Do a bunch of IPA wipedowns: 70/30 Isopropyl alcohol/Distilled Water or 50/50. With a rotary I'd say mandatory, but with a PC, still a decent idea.
