What pad after a wool pad

Im about to try my luck at a wool pad. I've read wool is quicker than foam and dosent heat up and I got a car that is need of a BIG polish job and I need it to go quick. Im going to use a wool and then I HOPE I can step down to a white and call it good, is that the best way to go or?

Also while your here what causes paint to become "chalky" by that I mean its a white car that I can wipe my hand down and my had is white, really bad oxidation?

Cheers

Possible that its single stage paint.

Just going to depend on how hard or soft the clear is and what compound you are using with the wool. Most of the time using wool will require a middle step if you want the finish really right.

Re: What pad after a wool pad

After you wool, you can follow up with a white pad, but if you start with wool, you are looking at a 3 step correction at least; depending on how bad the car is.

Re: What pad after a wool pad

I've been able to go from SOLO yellow wool to a yellow megs pad (similar to LC white) on some occasions and not on others. Just depends on the paint. More times than not I go Wool-Orange-Black. If wool comes out plan on 3 steps as others have mentioned.

But, as always, test spots are your friend!

Re: What pad after a wool pad

I'd plan on doing something more aggressive than the white foam after the wool. Might not be necessary, but I'd still expect that I'd have to do it.

Re: What pad after a wool pad

what pads do you have . . . . not sure if you tried any test spots or not. Starting off with a wool pad being that it is the most aggressive might just be adding steps to your procedure. You might want to consider using a LC Yellow or Orange pad with something like M105 . . . . . but it also depends on the paint. If it's chalky like that i would wash it really well and clay it, then proceed to polishing otherwise your pads are going to gunk up quickly from the white paint.

It might be a single stage paint since that usually happens with them.
