Megs 205/PC Questions

For those of you that use 205 with a PC, what speed do you use?? I was looking into the KBM and Kevin suggests slower speeds when using 205 with a PC.

I used it today on my single stage red Camaro and it really looked best when I ramped up the speed to 5.5 or 6. I didn't get much correction/gloss with the lower speeds. (Seesm to be the story with PC no matter what I use- I rarely take it off speed 5.5 or 6)

Are you guys using higher PC speeds with 205??

Also, in terms of finishing out a panel with 205. Do you let up on the pressure and finish out with very light pressure or just stop polishing with no change in downward pressure?

Just trying to refine my technique a little. What I did today seemed to work ok for me but this was with single stage paint. Just trying to get an idea of what most people are doing in terms of speed and pressure on clear coats...

Thanks!!!

Re: Megs 205/PC Questions

I use a Porter Cable and only run M205 at speed 6. Since M205 is a non-dimishing abrasive, I find it works best when I make two "pressure" passes and then finish with light pressure passes (2-4).

I don't bother trying to polish out anything via DA buffer under speed 5 no matter what product I use. #205 works very well on 5 or 6.

Scott

I'm begining to learn what you already know. Speed 5/6 is the only way to go with most all polishes.

Anyone else??

Just wondering if most people "finish out" 205 with some light passes - or - simply polish at the same speed the entire time and then move on...

Re: Megs 205/PC Questions

Considering how relatively mild the PC is and how not powerful it is at low speeds life begins at speed 6. I mean that

I lighten up a bit with pressure for final passes(with anything including 205) but still on speed 5-6. But I dont turn it down for final passes.

Re: Megs 205/PC Questions

I have found that speed 5 works best for what I try to use 205 for.

I agree. Although speed 5 with 5.5" pads seems to work sometimes as well.

I have only had 205 finish out well with light final passes on two occasions. Constant medium pressure seems to leave the best finish most of the time for me.

Re: Megs 205/PC Questions

I normally do 2 passes with pressure and then tone it down to finish off.

Re: Megs 205/PC Questions

Since I can't seem to get anything done with larger pads (even KMBing with M105/M205 ), I use speeds 4.5-5 with my 3.5-4" pads. It just seems to work better for me at the slightly lower speed, more stable with the little pads I'm using (might be different with othe 4" pads).

I've turned it down to 4 for final passes with M205, dunno if it really mattered though.
