Edge system

Just a rant...

Got an Edge adaptor and some pads for my Meg's polisher. I tried the system out. Switching between 4 and 6 inch pads was a brease. The pads were centered perfectly each time. Great! Then disaster hit. I was doing the bumper of my car with a green 6 inch pad, some compound and too much pressure. Going over an edge in the bottom portion of the bumper and managed to remove a fleck of paint. Damn! Apparently I struck the recessed plastic "backing" plate at the center of the pad. Fortunately I was able to touch the area up as it's in a place that is not noticeable. Back to backing plates for me...

Re: Edge system

could it have been that you where simply using to aggressive combo on a thing area of paint? I have been using the edge system for many years and have never hit the back plate inside of the pad and I have some older pads that are worn down.

Re: Edge system

I can't fathom what you'd have to do to hit the center of an edge pad. Especially a stiffer one like the green.

Yea, you better stick with the backing pads... wow.

Re: Edge system

What can I say? I felt like an ape after it happened. Perhaps it was a perfect storm of heat from working on the bumper making the foam a bit more compliant, too much pressure and not paying attention to where I was moving the pad. *sigh*
