Do smaller pads fit on Flex 3401?

I am planning on buying the Flex 3401 VRG but I was wondering if it is possible to attach any pads smaller than 6.5 inches to this polisher, and if so, how?

if you get the flex adapter, you can use smaller pads...

Edge FLEX XC 3401 Conversion Adapter, Edge Pads adapter for FLEX Orbital Buffer, 3M Edge 2000 Adapter

Re: Do smaller pads fit on Flex 3401?

I've used 5.5" pads, but the backing plate goes right to the edge. You have to be very careful with those. Since it's forced rotation, you don't get a benefit from smaller pads unless you just need them for a small space or something. I prefer 7.5" mushroom pads with the Flex.

Re: Do smaller pads fit on Flex 3401?

When I get around to it, I'm gonna have a pal cut down a Flex backing plate for use with 4" pads. We'll see how it turns out....

Re: Do smaller pads fit on Flex 3401?

this was the big reason I skipped the Flex, so its interesting to see the Edge BP now fully available. Sadly Edge pads are hard to get in the UK though....

Re: Do smaller pads fit on Flex 3401?

Given the size/configuration of the Flex 3401's housing, I dunno if smaller pads are gonna be all that practical for anything except spot-correction on normal areas; I don't see it being all that good for tight spots.
