Porter Cable 7424 Still The One?

Occasional detailer, not even a weekend warrior wondering if there's a new tool in town or if the 7424 is still the rookies tool of choice.

:help:

I currently have a $19.99 Craftsman random orbital that seems to work well but can't get rid of the temptation to get a Porter Cable.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'll take a peak here and see if I can find a good starter kit... and while I wait for my order to arrive to a LOT of reading lol.

Hey Lucky,

I am a member on chevytalk and also your site, athough I don't visit either of them that much anymore. This place seems to take up all my time. Good to see you here and congratulations, you just found the best resource on the web for detailing.

Hey good to see you man... I'm so lost when it comes to this, I think that's why I haven't pulled the trigger yet... to many variables lol.

imo, every detailer should have a pc in their arsenal....

I've got the last kit that bigal posted from autogeek and love it. I would just make sure whatever you get, the pads aren't too big. I believe most people will agree 6"or 6.5" pads is as large as you would want to go with a pc (because of its lack of power compared to a rotary). good luck.

for the price the PC is the best choice-there are better machines but they cost more

Welcome to Autopia, Lucky13MN!

While the PC is still the most popular unit, there *is* an alternative that some of us like better, but it's the *old* tool in town ;) having been around a lot longer than the PC: The Cyclo.

Well worth doing a quick search on, as we've discussed it in depth a million times, including some direct comparisons with the PC.

Thanks for the welcome! That's one cool looking tool, I think I could do some damage with it haha.

Ok, the Porter Cable 7424 is purchased and on the way...

Now I'm thinking Lake Country pads, mostly 'orange' and some product lol.

Good grief, this is gonna be the death of me.

I think David messed up the Guide

"Autopia Member Deemo: Ford F150"

have you noticed how the top pick has the key pad entry, but the bottom pic longer has it?

You'll want a lighter polish like SSR 1 or something similar as well.

I actually have a nice shopping cart going on your site hahaha. I think I added SSR 1 to the list, along with a couple other goodies. Do you have the pad cleaning brush? Didn't see it listed anywhere but I could have overlooked it.

Thank you

wish I could help you out but I know almost nothing about the poorboys polish or chemical guys polish. Danase of course does know what he is talking about.

also... more than anything, make sure to get plenty of high quality microfiber towels! you can never have enough of them....
