LC Pads Bad Velcro !

I have a customer who bought some 6.5" flat LC pads with the black velcro loop and they are flying off his backplate. I first thought it was his backplate, but when I tried with my backplate the same thing happens, it doesn't seem to stick very good at all ! Anyone experience this with the black hook materials before ? I mostly use 6.5-7" LC rotary pads with the white velcro hook material and never expereinced this with any of my backplates for the DA or rotary.

Re: LC Pads Bad Velcro !

Velcro is a wear item. Eventually, the backing for the pad will fail. This is certain no matter who makes the pad. Some pads fail faster than others but Lake Country pads use higher quality backing and tend to resist failure better. But PFW pads on the other hand...

The guy is a weekend warrior and details his car twice a year so I doubt its wear and tear. The LC pads I have with the white hook material never has this problem no matter how many times I use it !

Like I said, I never used a pad with the black velcro material before so this is why I am asking.

Re: LC Pads Bad Velcro !

When you say that they fly off the backing plate, do you mean pad and velcro, or do you mean delamination as in the pad flies but the velcro stays put?

I think I was a bit quick in reading your post. If they are simply flying off and not holding...That's a different problem. It could be a bad batch. The age of the pads could have an effect, as well.

I have experienced this problem with the PC 4" pads but never w/ the larger pads on the PC and never w/ the rotary. Not sure what caused the 2x it happened to me but it's relatively rare so I don't worry about it.

They are not delaminating, just the hook on the backplate is not holding the loop material on the pad. He has several pads and they are all the same. The velcro virtually does not seem to stick, its not the backplate. So, he is scared to apply pressure on the pad as it flies off, I didn't believe what he was saying till I tried to stick his pad with my own backplate and it is the same.

Re: LC Pads Bad Velcro !

How often has this happened and how old are the pads?

Well I can imagine it happens quite often since, the pads barely lock onto the backplate. The pads are around 2 years old.

Theses are the flat 6.5" LC DA pads with black velcro loop material, there also a little step between the foam and the loop material. I have never used this kind of pads personally. My LC pads do not have the little step and the loop material is white.
