Results of my first rotary practice (with pics)

What a great tool. I am a new found believer. This machine is awesome. Started out at 900rpm spreading the polish around, ran it up to 1500-1800 to get a feel for the machine. As I felt the polish was breaking down, I lowered the speed to 900 for a finish. Man, the rotary is a BREEZE. Granted, this color very forgiving, I am sure black would have been a bit more of a pain. At 1500 I let the machine work under its own weight. What would have taken me 20 minutes with the PC, took me 5 minutes to do with the rotary. The paint finish is so much more smoother and better than the PC's finishes.

My garage is small, sorry for the crummy pics but you can see the improvement. This is with a one step polish.

- Intensive Polish







Is this polish broken down enough? I worked it in for about two minutes.

This is my favorite pic. As you can tell the left side is heavily swirled/oxidized. Notice the right side, paint was popping!





Can't wait to go out into the sun tomorrow and see the difference. Judging by that, I will be basing what products to use on the whole vehicle. How would I go about cleaning that Wool/Foam pad? I usually throw them in the washing machine, but I have a feeling the wool might shed in there?

You will surely have holograms after using PFW. I would definitely add another step with white foam and a finer polish. As for washing, most people don't wash wool from what I can tell. Just spur regularly. I may try washing one of mine just to see if I can bring the fluff back. As for washing foam, I apply dawn power dissolver and let the pad soak for an hour or so. Then I put the pads in dawn dish soap water and push the polish from the center of the pad to the edges with my thumbs. Once you're satisfied with the cleanliness....rinse, put the pad on the rotary, and spin it dry.

You are going to go over the paint with at least 1 more step, correct? Also, put the polish on the paint, not the pad. Also, polishing with wool is a lot different then using foam with the rotary. Stick a CCS orange pad on there and give it a go.

I wash my PFW with warm water.

Yea of course I am going to add another step. My next step, if I had time would have been FPII with a white LC pad. I do not have time to give the foam pad a go today, but will tomorrow. How is it different, just a lot harder to control?

FPII most likely will *not* clean up the leftover grams, etc. from the PFW and IP. I loooooove FPII. It's one of the best jeweling polishes out there, but it has zero correction ability. You're going to need something like 3m Ultrafina, PO106FF, Optimum Polish, etc. to clean up the grams. *Then* use the FPII on a black/grey, blue, or red foam pad to really up the gloss. You won't get the finish FPII is really capable of with a white pad.

Foam gets *much* hotter *much* faster than wool does. It can also be more difficult to control, but if you're using a light weight polish it'll be about as easy as the PFW.

For ease of use, I would go with the edge 2k white finishing wool with either 1Z High Gloss Polish, PO1066FF, UF, or OP as your next step. This will clean up any grams and/or light swirls/defects and give you a nice gloss. Follow up with a finishing foam pad and the FPII for the ultimate gloss.

Step 1) Intensive Polish w/ FWP
Step 2) #80/Optimum Polish w/ White LC polishing pad

Don't know if I will do a third step.
