Got my Makita, just screw in the backing plate?

Hey everyone, got my used Makita (ebay for $120). Anyways, I had ordered a Meguiars backing plate that will be here Monday. Till then I am going to use the one I got with this package. Do I just screw it onto the machine and thats it, or is there something I will need to lock to keep it from coming unscrewed?

Also, I plan on attacking my mothers hood tonite with some IP to begin with. On the PC i would pre-prep the pad with a circle of product. On the rotary, do I need a full circle or will a few pea sized drops work?

Thanks,
And I will be sure to start a new thread with pics after my findings.
