Newbie with DA Flex and FEIN rotary

Both are German made workhorses that will easily take on whatever you bring upon them. After reading up on numerous reviews of the FLEX and viewing demonstration vids, I knew I had to have one! Just for clarification, the FLEX is a DA polisher and the FEIN is a rotary polisher, the latter being a very light one at that (5.1 lbs)!

You might ask why an polishing tool newbie like myself would need such a high-end rotary polisher. Well, they say that no matter how good a DA polisher is, a pro behind the handle of a rotary will outshine (pun intended) it any day of the week and at a faster pace. Not to mention, I'm a sucker for top notch tools. The FLEX should be able to handle even the worst condition paints so who knows if I'll even bother with the FEIN.

I got the whole shebang, 6.5" LC foam pad kit, microfiber bonnets, backing plates, orange pad, red pads, etc. I think I'm going to practice on the girl's car first or the folks' just to get a good feel for how these babies work. Also, their paints could definitely use a light polishing unlike mine which is pristine.

I'll keep you guys updated when I decide to break-in the FLEX. Any tips or suggestions?

Is it just me, or does this whole post seem like spam, or shilling of some sort... 0 previous posts and a background that looks like a photoshoot...?


First, I've never heard of a FEIN machine...

Anyways, put some oil (I used mineral oil, but some use 10w/30 or silicone spray)on the felt ring of the flex and re-install the backing plate, make sure to check the bolt that holds it on when re-installing, make sure it's tight.

Also, I've heard of somebody applying white lithium grease to the gears, and adding an 8mm washer.

The reason I mention this, is because the flex is notorious for having the backing plate rub against the felt ring and melting, causing a nasty mess of smoke and plastic shards.

I wasn't thinking that per se...but I was thinking that someone had too much money burning a whole in his pocket.
