Flex issue again

When I first start the machine, and apply it to the paint black shreds of material go over the paint. I'm assuming this is coming from the backing plate..There is also a plastic grinding sound when it comes to a stop.

Anyone had this issue before?

I took a peak and the backing plate does bind on the metal portion of the polisher.

Nope. Time for a new backing plate. Search for a Flex thread under my username.

Re: Flex issue again

I think she's referring to the XC 3401.

The picture is NOT a Griot's:

(though it is close...)

Doesn't look like a Megs unit, either:

When I got mine the other day, I put some white grease on the gears, sprayed the felt ring with Silicone spray and put a lock washer (8mm) on the bolt. I'm pretty sure I won't have issues, but will report if I do - it should be getting a pretty strong workout!

Hmm, I haven't put any white grease on the gears, although I did apply mineral oil to the felt ring when I was re-installing the backing plate. I'm assuming you opened up the machine to apply the white lithium grease?

Yes - just removed the bolt and then the backing plate - the gears are right there - I put a little on the gears on the plate and inside the housing. I figured the progressive rotation of the machine would spread it around...
