Problems with pads on PC at speed 6

I broke out the PC yesterday for the 3rd time ever to detail my friends car. I have a 5.5"backing plate from Autogeek and was using brand new 6.5" & 5.5" LC foam pads.

At speed 6 The 6.5" white polishing pad with 106FF was jumping all over the place and even folding up over the backing plate making it very difficult to control and keep flat on the paint. The 5.5" orange with SIP was a bit better, but after doing the whole car, noticed hat the foam was breaking apart from the velcro on the pad. I used QD to spritz the pad before use and brushed any caked up polish off the pad during use.

I also had trouble keeping the pad attached to the velcro on the backing plate. The pad actually moved off the backing plate while polishing at speed 6.

What was I doing wrong? Is speed 6 too much with these pads?

I've been using 106ff with a 5.5" pad with no problems. Using orange, white, grey, blue and red, again with no problems. However, I'm using a 5" backing plate. I'm not sure it's safe to use a 5.5" backing plate with 5.5" pads. No room to protect the bp from touching the paint. They say 106 can be a little finicky at times. Humidity and temp can play a big part in how the polish acts. BTW I've also used 6.5" pads with no problems. The only thing is with a pc the 6.5" pads will not spin as freely as the 5.5" pads.

Interesting, so that means I'm doing something wrong? Temp was 65 degrees, low humidity. Could it be my backing plate?

I doubt if its your bp. Does it skip on lower speeds? How much polish are you using? Some times using to much polish will gum up the pad and make it grab. Try using a clean pad and use just 2 dime size drops of polish for each 2X2 sections and spur pad between panels. Hope this helps.
