new to portercable 7242

i recently purchased the poorboys portercable kit from auto geek and it comes with a 5 inch backing plate as well as a few 5 .5 in pads ( i purchased a few extra) and a few 6.5 in pads. i was wondering if the counterweight is necessary along with a larger backing plate for the 6.5 in pads

you should be fine with the supplied counterweight on whatever pads you use...
