Question Buying a PC7424...which is the best package for a n00b?

As the title says, I'm a bit new to the PC & I need some suggestions on what is the best package. I was checking out these three:

XMT Porter Cable 7424 Intermediate Swirl Remover Kit with CCS pads!Free Bonus!

Menzerna Porter Cable Intensive Shine Kit Free Bonus!

Optimum Porter Cable 7424 Kit Remove swirl marks and paint flaws

The paint condition of the vehicles I'll primarily be working on will not be that bad, just light/medium swirls, light scratches, no oxidation.

I'm not sure which to get since I've heard good things about XMT, Menzerna, and Optimum. If you have any suggestions other than these, post them up.

Out of those 3 options, I'd go with the Optimum package. All packages are great but I prefer the Optimum one. Good luck in your purchase!

Re: Buying a PC7424...which is the best package for a n00b?

From a relative noob...

I bought the PC separately on eBay, then bought a kit like this on eBay because I wanted the extra pads....

eBay Motors: XL Dual Action 6.5 Inch Foam Pad Kit -Porter Cable 7424 (item 300211984277 end time Apr-09-08 13:59:54 PDT)

Then I bought the polishes separately from AutoGeek when they were having a sale and free shipping.

Oh, I had to buy my backing plate separately cause the kit didn't come with one.

In the end, I spent less overall than the AutoGeek kits and ended up with more pads.

For polishes, I started with the XMT line, and they worked well, but I'm trying other products now because it seems you can get as good or better for less money. (Note that the Menzerna and Optimum kits you listed come with 32oz bottles of polish versus the 12oz bottles in the XMT kit).

Also, I bought all my stuff before I joined Autopia. Now that I'm reading here regularly, I don't see too much mention of the XMT products, but I see people recommending Menzerna and Optimum products all the time.

So, if you're going with one of those 3, I'd say go with either the Menzerna or Optimum since you'll get more product for the money and since those brands seem to be recommended much more often than the XMT stuff.

Hope that helps

my final choices were between Optimum and Menzerna and I went with Menzerna. Think the Optimum is a little less but also comes with Poli-seal. I love the menzerna but still want to try the optimum, especially poli-seal. Maybe the Opt has a longer working time which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. Getting the machine and plenty of pads is the important part.

Have you thought about going to Flex 3401 VRG directly?

I tend to agree with this. I wish I had had this advice before I purchased my PC.

I just ordered and received this...

I have already tested the Flex out a bit. Wow. Just wow. Happy Knuck!

The flex is a bit expensive IMHO... I would go with one of the UDM kits like this one:
Ultimate Detailing Machine DAS Car Polisher Kit
