6inch backing plate for 5.5 pads?

Posted in wrong section figured I should post in here. I have what I think from my original sfx pad purchase a 6 inch backing plate that came with it. I ordered 5.5 pads thinking my backing plate was a 5 inch. When I line them up the pad and backing plate are identical in size. Can I use this or do I need to order a 5 inch backing plate?

I have a 3.5 inch backing plate too but that seems way to small.

You can use it if you want but you have no "safety zone" between the edge of the pad and backing plate. One slip and you'll have some damaged paint.

"Technically" you can do it, but I wouldn't call it good practice. Having the backing plate and the pad the exact same size really gives you no room for error. When you are working with something expensive, that simply isn't a good idea.

Use the 3.5" plate until you get one that'll fit the 5.5's a bit better.
