need new pads and backing plate

Ok, so today I decided to clean my mom's Camry which is in terrible shape since some body work a few years ago. I couldn't stand the swirls anymore and decided to give a shot at fixing them. I used a PC and a swirlbuster pad with Poorboys ssr 2.5 on speed 6. I had some progress but it was taking me 1.5 hours just to get 65-70% of the swirls out of the hood. None the less I consider myself successful even though not perfect. But by the time I got to the end of the 2nd third of the hood I noticed my pad seemed to be disintegrating from the inside. As I was polishing, foam pieces were coming out of the center hole. By the time I was finished with the hood I was changing pads to use AIO on the rest of the car since I was out of time. But by the time I pulled the pad off, it had fused with the backing plate and that's what caused the disintegration. I touched the middle of it that had separated and it was really hot and the velcro melted. I used a bit of pressure when polishing. Is that what caused the melting? I was going to polish a small area of the car every time I got the chance until it looks good but now my PC is out of service because I don't have another backing plate and the pad that actually made a smudge in the swirls is destroyed.

So I was wondering is it my fault that the backing plate melted?

I need suggestions for a new plate and a new pad that cuts as good as or better than the Swirlbuster. Has to be reasonably priced too since I didn't intend on buying this stuff for a while. Thanks in advance.

Re: need new backing plate and pad(s)

get the 6" hook and loop from www.exceldetail.com....I have it for my 6.5" pads and absolutely love it...I have tried three other backing plates and they all fail in comparison....

I cant get my browser to work right to copy a link, but its the 6" propel backing plate...

Re: need new backing plate and pad(s)

Get the 5" backing plate and some 5.5" LC pads, they cut WAY faster and will save you a ton of time. And get a 6" backing plate and some white, grey, and blue LC pads (CCS).

Re: need new backing plate and pad(s)

Anybody else? Can't spend too much so it's either the 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads or the 6" bp and 6.5" pads. How are the LC orange pads in terms of cutting? Also is there a discount code for excel? How about autogeek?
