(MUST SEE) Edge adapter for Makita BO6040

If you are thinking about buying one of these new forced rotation ROB machines you must check this out first.

My only big complaint with these new machines like the Flex and Makita BO6040 is they only used 6 or 6.5"pads. NOT ANY MORE, atleast not the Makita BO6040 machine. I was considering switching to a Flex mostly due to trigger loaction until I installed Edges new adapter. This thing is awesome. Now I can use 4" pads.

6.5" pads

8" pads

Wool pads

And it accepts a handle which I really prefer since I am used to using a Rotary.

I don't know if it is my imagination or not but I swear the machine has less vibration and is so much easier to control with the edge pads on it.

So if you are thinking about picking up a new machine I highly recommend you take this into consideration. I have always had a Makita Rotary that has never given me an ounce of trouble (knock wood) so I figured the new Makita forced rotation ROB would be a good machine and I loved how it saved me cleanup time by not having to use the rotary for paint correction and much less slinging but now I am truly in love with this machine. Feel free to ask any question. Oh, and I am in no way affiliated with Makita or Edge, just a satisfied customer.

Be sure to do a long term report back on how the adapter holds together under the added power of the Makita.

Will do. I suspect the backing plate would go before the adapter. I will definitely give periodic updates as I continue to use it.

Excellent, I was using the foamed wool prior to putting on the adapter and both work very nice and have excellent cutting ability.

Re: (MUST SEE) Edge adapter for Makita BO6040

I figured I would show you guys how easy it is to put this adapter on or take off. Only takes a minute.

Remove Allen Screw.

Remove backing plate and it will look like this.

Put on first part of adapter. It is just held on by a new allen screw which is the same size as the allen on the original adapter.

With allen screw in.

Screw on Adapter (reverse thread)

Adapter on.

Now just snap on any size pad you want and buff away.

I did my BMW trunk deck and actually was able to remove some water spots that were in it with just my BO6040 the other day. I love this machine.

Close. It doesn't spin as fast as a rotary but it is faster than a Flex, up to 670 rpm.

Re: (MUST SEE) Edge adapter for Makita BO6040

True, it spins a little faster but it doesn't have near the power the Flex has - orbits/throw. I've never tried either, but looking at the two, I'd buy the Flex just on ergonomics. I do have, love and use my 9227 quite a bit.

Re: (MUST SEE) Edge adapter for Makita BO6040

I don't know why you would need to buy a flex if you know how to use a rotary.
