Remote start systems?

I always let it run for 5 minutes before driving it so I thought one of these would save me some time. Anyone have any tips on what I should look for and the price? Is 400ish a sane starting place? Anything I need to watch out for?

Thanks!

Re: Remote start systems?

Got to a good audio shop not Bestbuy or CC. A starter is very cheap it's the options you want that make it more expensive. If your car has an alarm you might want to see if your dealer offers a "factory" remote starter it will do things like turn on your defrosters if your heat is up high mine even turns on my seat heaters.

Just check around but please don't go to a big box store.

Re: Remote start systems?

Do your self a favor and get any unit form DEI . Viper ,Clifford ,Python and a few others. If you go for the units with alarms and remote start they will cost 400 and above. Go to a reputable audio installation shop as stated above stay away from those big box stores for items as this

Re: Remote start systems?

Having worked for an audio shop i can only concur with those above. We had several people come into the shop with alarms and remote systems put in by big box stores, and we had to trouble shoot their mess ups. I never installed or messed with the alarms, but my boss sometimes had to actually re-wire the big box store install to make it work properly.

Also, directed electronics (DEI) makes awesome equipment, so dont hesitate on their systems.

Re: Remote start systems?

This probably goes without saying, but don't even think about doing this on a manual transmission car.

Re: Remote start systems?

I have a Hornet system on my car. It's great, made by DEI. Get it installed professionally. Depending on features it should be $150-300 range. Another thing, get it from the place that will install it. Don't bring it to them or they might not do it.

the main reason is driver comfort
allow the car to warm up or cool off before you get in

Re: Remote start systems?

The fun part is finding a good installer. I have seen many hacks over the years.

Re: Remote start systems?

I'm about to have this Autopage system installed on my wife's car.
AutoPage 2-Way Communications C3-RS727LCD

It also has the option of adding their new C3 module with GPS and cell phone control. Pretty cool technology.
