The annoying clicking sound in the video is apparently from the kid's radar detector. Notice how the cops attitude changes after he sees the camera in the kid's car.
Thats the one, to many wedgies in grade school.

Re: Which Radar Detector?

Ok here's the deal:

After further testing, having POP enabled or disabled can actually improve or inhibit your radar detector's ability: Guys of LIDAR - Radar Detector Test - August 2007
(I personally run my V1 with POP off and X-off b/c x isn't used here and it has shown to improve sensitivity, according to the website posted earlier)

That site has some great stuff, for those interested in radar detectors or laser jammers you should check it out.

As for POP, in most states that are not SUPPOSED to cite you a ticket from a POP reading, but as you all may know, cops may not always follow that guideline.

As for the video of the cop encounter, he posted that video for us too in another forum (www.radardetector.net). I believe (not sure) the case is still pending and he has another good video of him making an alleged illegal u-turn and getting pulled over for it. His detector going off in the video is a Beltronics RX-65.

Also it's pretty important to run with a laser jammer too. Even the V1 will get you busted by laser pretty quickly, it'll detect it, but that's pretty much it telling you to pull over and get your registration ready.

Re: Which Radar Detector?

The cop in the video was fired this week. Officially the reason was for "conduct unbecoming" and violating department policy, e.g. not videotaping the encounter on his dash cam.

STLtoday - News - St. Louis City / County

One tidbit that I don't see mentioned much in the news. According to the maps I've seen, the commuter lot where this encounter took place is just outside of the St George jurisdiction.

As for a cop writing a ticket on POP, let's see someone go to court and try to beat a ticket on that basis. No they're not supposed to do it, but what ya gonna do?

Re: Which Radar Detector?

If you really want to save yourself a bunch of headache and tickets save up for a Lidatek.

"Video removed due to terms of use violation."

Wasn't that a private video? What happened?

I found an alternate link:

Re: Which Radar Detector?

Escort 8500 X50 Owner here. Does it's job, use it only on long HWY trips. City driving I dont bother with it.

Re: Which Radar Detector?

Yeah I use an Escort 8500 as well. Love it. I thought about the Valentine but really as soon as my detector goes off I slow down. I don't bother to look around until after I slow so I figured the arrows were kind of pointless, for me anyway.

I also am interested in the Lidatek, but it's not available right now

But I too only use it on road trips not in the city.

Re: Which Radar Detector?

Lidatek, Blinder, and the others have pretty well been left in the dust by the new Laser Interceptor, but it's not exactly easy to get in the U.S. right now from what I've heard.
