What is an MP3 player?

I went to a forum and saw a link that said "The Best Mp3 Players", what are mp3 players and why does everybody talk about them?

MP3 players are the new handheld music players. First there was the walkman, then CD player, then that little mini disk player, and now there's MP3 player. Instead of using a disk, it uses maybe a memory card or a hard drive, and files can be downloaded into it. You can delete the songs, add more songs, etc. It's pretty much more convenient. The reason they're called MP3 players is because the files that are stored in them are MP3 files.

MP3 is a compressed version (smaller) of the original. Therefore they are faster to download and you can fit more on a cd or player. The quality is not quite as good as the original, but for most purposes it is small, most people can not tell the difference.

MP3s have been around for a decade now. Where have you been? lol I don't have or need an MP3 player, but if you have had a computer or been online in the last ten years then you really should have heard something about them by now. Still, it is an interesting first post.

I got a real bad electrical shock 8 years ago when I hit the beach to try that "surfing" stuff everyone was raving about. Didn't even get to catch a single .wav. Almost turned me off computers completely.
