Anyone have an opinion on these subs ?
I am looking to get a sub for my 2001 dodge dakota quadcab and still have all the room inside, And i am NOT looking for the BOOM BOOM crazy bass , just a nice full sound.

Re: MTX Thunderforms

Thunderforms are a nice idea, but you can generally get much much better (sub wise) than MTX for less money.

Have you checked q-logic or any custom sites? That way you could load that sucker with a better and more SQ oriented sub.

Re: MTX Thunderforms

If you haven't checked into it already I would highly recommend looking into the JL Audio Stealthbox. See if they make one for your year and trim line.

With the kind of music you listed I would recommend going with a sealed box, this will give you a tighter punchier bass that is more in line with natural bass (i.e. drums and strings), than synthesized bass (rap and hip-hop). The downside is that with a sealed enclosure you are going to need a bit more aggressive of an amplifier than when compared to a bandpass or a ported box.

Re: MTX Thunderforms

I just took a peak at the JL site and didn't see a Stealthbox listed for the 2001 Quadcab. However it looked like the box that they made for the 2001 Durango might work if you have an armrest in the backseat between the seats.

Is this something that you are looking to install yourself or are you going to have a shop do it?

Re: MTX Thunderforms

Yeah, I would advise making something yourself. Also, if you port the box according to the specs of the woofer you choose in the manual, it will sound great and get a little louder than a sealed while using less power. I suggest this TC Sounds (TC-1000) it would sound great with about 400w rms and about a 1cf box port tuned to 30-35hz. That will give great sound, killer SQ, and great efficiancy.

Re: MTX Thunderforms

I have this sub. Its a great, hardworking sub that will give you a nice hard hit without needing a lot of power.

MTX carries a big line of subs, so your choice will also depend on what type of power you would like in a sub. If you're looking to really make a lot of power out of your sub, then you could even look at some of MTX's subwoofers, and then look at different amps.

The thunderforms is a very good amp IMO for adding to a good quality high end factory system and even to other aftermarket systems.

Re: MTX Thunderforms

I know alot of dakota guys just get an unloaded box and put whatever they want in.

Have you checked out dakotausa.com or dakota-durango.com Im on both and they should both give you plenty of info if you search.

Re: MTX Thunderforms

I have one in my F150 and I really like it. It fits under the rear seat and matches the interior perfectly. It produces a nice amount of bass for the money.

The look is totally OEM.
