Feel a little threatened...
Over the past month we have had two instances where someone comes to our front door and pounds very hard on the door. The first incident was at 6 am when my sister was getting ready for school, by the time she got anyone up the person had already jumped into their car and left.
The second incident, which happened tonight was a person who again pounded very hard and all of our living room lights were on and everything, but when my mom went to go get my dad the person was gone, I was just pulling into the driveway when my dad was running outside...and I did not see any cars or people but something is definitely up. Any suggestions as to what we can do to catch these guys, do you guys know of any cheap little security cameras I can hide near the front door. Obviously it doesn't need to work in the dark as these people are definitely not scared about our lights being on.
I'm getting very upset with this as who knows what it could possibly escalate too (violence or home break-in)
Thanks for the help guys

Re: Feel a little threatened...
More than likely just a knucklehead 16 year old. Hes pounding and running, so this tells me this person is young and immature. Im guessing you are probobly not the only one this is happening too, maybe check with your neighbors too find out if they have experienced this as well. The cheapest deterrent would be a some sort of security sine from Lowes or Home Depot and stick it by the front door.

Re: Feel a little threatened...
First off make a police report. so that the police are aware of peculiar activities taking place around your home. At least then it is on record.
After that yes, you can go to Best Buy or Circuit City and get a camera, the problem is that if they do it only once a month then it is going to take awhile before you get any activity. Do you have friends that would do stuff like this as a prank. It is probably someone you know more than anything else. Especially if they are banging on the door when the lights are on.
Remember though you are actuall in the situation, and I am just someone judging your situation, so make sure that you take every precaution to stay safe. Good luck and I hope that everything works out.

Deffinatly sounds like a teenager doing this. Let the cops know, get a small cam and hook it up to your computer to record. Personally i wouldn't worry to much, if it was home invader they would be doing more then pounding and running. Just some punk kid pulling a prank. Probably a local kid too.

Re: Feel a little threatened...
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, the only reason I don't think it is a local neighbor is all of our neighbors are either friends of the family or they do not have kids, we do have a wooded area behind our house though so that may be where they are coming from. Either way if it is a prank it has gone a little too far as to be scaring my family. We'll see what happens the next couple of days, but I'll probably run out and pick up a cheap security cam or try to catch these guys in the act next time around.

Re: Feel a little threatened...
If you are really that concerned about it, then report it to the Police.

Re: Feel a little threatened...
Maybe something like this:
Decent priced security camera
or
dummy camera
or possibly
Cheaper working security camera
Id definately file a police report though. No reason people cant be polite and not knock or use a door bell.
EDIT: sorry if it looks like spam, i dont mean it to be, but their links do that for some odd reason

I don't think the earlier suggestion was that it was one of your neighbors but rather ask your neighbors if this is happening to them as well. If it is happening to them as well than you at least know it is just a prank rather than someone actually targeting your family. Checking with the neighbors to see if this is happening to them as well is the second thing I would do, the first being a police report.
I had something similar happen a while back when some neighbors down the road were having a party. The party was being thrown by the owners college age son. I guess a few of the party goers thought it would be fun to run through yards yelling and screaming and banging on things. Lets just say the cops visiting the party and talking to the parents probably took a bit of the fun out of it
Just a couple of weeks ago I heard a lot of banging on our garage door in the middle of the night. We live in an area that is not remote but is not that developed and there are woods all around our house. We called the police just in case but I have a feeling that maybe it was an animal rather than something more serious. Needless to say I slept with the .357 under the pillow for the rest of the night

Re: Feel a little threatened...
Once is a prank, more than once is a pattern. I would report it to the police.

Re: Feel a little threatened...
I don't want to sound like an ***, but are you prepared or a home invasion? It might just be stupid kids, but it sounds like someone is testing you. When seconds count the Cops are only min away! Get a gun, train everyone in the house how to use it, and lock it up in a hidden quick access lock box.

Re: Feel a little threatened...
Someone try to get in my house last yr on black Friday (2 AM), all i have to say was he was pickup by the police after i caught him and tried him up ( I have my beretta on his head when i caught him and also have my K-Bar when i was in the military) he was crying like a baby when the cops came for him. I found out he was doing this to alot of folks in the area and he was 17 yrs old. Always protect your family and your home!
