Southern California Fires
Thankfully, my area isn't affected, but here is an interesting link I came across: EO Natural Hazards: Fires in Southern California

Re: Southern California Fires
Everything around me is covered in ash this morning. Completely different from yesterday.

Re: Southern California Fires
Sorry to hear that Brian... Just glad they are all ok.
BTW, I would the smoke would go inland because of the ocean wind and just I would think that's what it'd do.

Re: Southern California Fires
Dominant high pressure over the great basin (Utah/Colorado area) drives winds in a clockwise motion. Low pressure, conversely spins counterclockwise.
Picture a clock, So cal is at about 7. Winds are coming from the 1 o'clock to the 7 o'clock position driving the winds "offshore".
Great surfing weather though if theres a swell.

Re: Southern California Fires
You all take care of yourself's and your families too. That picture of the smoke from Patrick reminds me of the oil rigs that were on fire from the 91 Gulf war, couldn't see 5 feet in front of myself. Take care and be safe.......... and Brian glad that your grandmother and her dogs are ok!

Re: Southern California Fires
... sure made for an interesting afternoon yesterday. Started to freak a little when they began evacuating neighborhoods about 1 mile north of me this morning. Sure didn't get much accomplished at work today, that's for sure.
this is was what it looked like around 5 PM yesterday from my driveway...
this is what it looked like from the deck in the back yard...
this is what I'm evacuating in, should the time come...
... this oughta keep me ahead of the fireline!

Re: Southern California Fires
8 more hours of no power today, finally went on as Im posting here. I heard the "Magic" fire is coming west, to Simi Valley, guess whats next door, me. I have really had enough smoke as of late, the burning throat, sore eyes and nasal passages, forget it! My right ear is so clogged up im missing about 75% of my hearing as a results of sinus issues or wax accumulation. Im not looking for sympathy, im just miserable!! And David is in San Diego, where I heard they evacuated 250,000 people?!
Thousand Oaks is surrounded by hills, all the way to the beach again! Man oh man we need a break. They say the winds are to die down in about 18 more hours so hopefully another week of smoke and were done for the season! Good luck to all close by the fires and better luck if your in the current path of one of these monsters...........Poor Arrowhead lost quite a few homes today, again.
