Please Help me in Saluting a True American Hero

Luke Milam was a senior in High School in 1999. Not much different from a bunch of us.
His high school was Columbine in Colorado.

One of his best friends was killed during that senseless act of violence, and he vowed that he was going to do all he could to help people other people the way he couldn't help his friend on that day in 1999.
He went into the Navy, then he became a Corpsman. He was sent to fight in Afghanistan where he showed the meaning of what it really is to be a man.
When his platoon came under heavy attack he risked his own life again and again to pull injured soldiers from burning truck and set up a defensive line to push back the enemy.
At the same time he was a field medical technician, helping the wounded wherever he could.

Luke Milam was killed in action on Sept. 25 in Afghanistan

If you want to read the whole article it is here The Denver Post - Mourners recall Colo. soldier's compassion

I wanted to post this because I am sick and tired of the pro-war/anti-war debate. We have lost sight of what it really means to be at war, people often forget about the simple fact that there are people out there fighting and dying for their country, no movies are being made about them, but these are the people who demonstrate what it really means to be a hero, laying their lives on the line to help others.
I did not know Luke Milam personally, but I have the highest respect for him, there aren't that many people who have as much honor and bravery as this man did.
Not many at all.

Thank you for posting this. I aooreciate your friend's service and sacrifice. Politics aside, in every case war is an ugly and tragic affair, regardless of its justification or necessity.

My own son just enlisted in the Army and while I'm terrified to the bone of the prospect of him going into combat, I'm proud of him.

Such a bittersweet experience this must be for his parents, family and friends. The sadness that he is gone but pride they must feel for the man he was.

May God bless him and everyone that loves him! I agree with you about the debate, but some politicians are doing it for votes and not for what is real important in this very real war on terror we have going on.
