I did some looking online and looks like it happens. So now I have to call Sony and send in mine and they will send me refurbished one. If I wanted a refurbished one I would have bought it in the first place and saved some money. I'm not really a hardcore gamer so I don't even have many hours on it. Grrrrr! Sorry for the rant. I used my American Express card to buy it and am almost thinking of just asking for my money back for now. It's the 120gb model.
120gb? unless you upgraded your hard drive or you have a version the public isn't able to get, you either have a 20gb, 40gb, 60gb, or 80gb. In any case, I'd take advantage of your credit card's extended warranty offer (if it's applicable).

That's funny! I really thought it was 120gb but today when I was messing around trying to get it to work I noticed it said 67gb of free space. I thought that was kind of a weird that I would have that much filled already. I just ran down in the basement and found the box, it's a 80gb. Isn't the memory the first thing to go with old age, I don't remember?

I disconnected the power cord for awhile to see if that would help. From my reading on the PS3 forums there seems to be a way to revert the system back to original settings but then you loose all your data. I will find my thumb drive and figure out how to save all my data and give it a try. Sounds like that works about 5% of the time but it's worth trying.

Re: PS3 or XBOX 360?

I haven’t been into game consoles since the days of Atari. My son had his eye on a PS3 (mainly because he’s a huge PS2 fan), and I’ve had thoughts of adding a Blu-Ray player to our HD set up, so we decided to purchase a 60GB PS3 for Christmas. I figured we could play PS2/3 games and watch High-Def movies-simple enough.

The PS3 can do so much more.

•It supports Blue tooth (controllers, remote, cell phone ear pieces for on-line chat during games).

•Built in wireless connection. Surf or Play On-line--which is incredibly addictive.

•Supports Blu-Ray 2.0 and High-Definition Audio Formats (Future Proof).

•HDMI connection (It integrates easily into your HDTV and Home Entertainment System)
The PS3 supports Microsoft Media Player--file sharing. I can access my PC hard drive (ACC, MP3, Photos, etc..). I have over 100GB of music, and it’s very convenient to access it over the wireless connection, and pump it through my entertainment system. My receiver doesn’t support High Definition Sound, but the PS3 does, and boy does it sound crisp! The new NIN “The Slip” is offered in HD, and is a free download-- it sounds amazing!

•USB Connections (hook up thumb drives, external drive, printer, etc…)

•Upgradeable. I purchased the 60GB model, which is fully backwards compatible with the PS2 (since we have a lot of PS2 games). The hard drive is a 5400RPM laptop drive. I upgraded to 160GB in about 10 minutes (swap drive, re-load firmware and game saves).

•On line game demos are free -Try before you buy. You can also download several full version games--and coming soon will be Blu-Ray titles (I will need a hard wire connection for this, as wireless will probably lag with 24+ GB download files)

•Media Card reader (supports every card format out--that I’m aware of)

I could go on and on, but in short this is the coolest piece of HW in my home theater set up by far.
