Not a single person has spoken in favor of the XBOX 360!

So far there hasn't been any game on the PS3 that makes me want to go out and spend the cash on an expensive system. I've come to the conclusion that I'm just old now (27) because I don't know half the games or half the bands the kids nowadays know about.
I'm still hoping for a version of Street Figher 2 Turbo/Hyper vs online players. Arcades just
aren't the same any more. I remember the good ol' days of putting your quarter on the machine's glass and waiting your turn to whoop @$$. It's sad that all the games the kids play at home are more high tech than what the arcades have.

Much more opportunity to find games that will appeal to more members of the family. I voted Xbox, but everyone that I've ever spoken to that's played the Wii has totally loved it - gamers and non-gamers alike. I would get the Wii for my kids, but if I were buying for me, I'd get an Xbox.
Games ported from one system to another aren't always compromised unless you're talking about going from console to PC and vice versa. Those almost always suck on the ported platform.

Hell, it already is much better than before.
You might need to check out some of the games that are coming in just a few weeks. At the same period in the 360's life it was a little starved for games as well. EA is still sleeping on the job in the dual platform games but the first and second party games are at least very good. We have Warhawk, Motorstorm and Resistance. My Ratchet & Clank is already paid for and Call of Duty 4 will be secured on Monday.
Our Wii collects dust....... I guess you can say that this family finds it to be gimmicky.

I have an Xbox and an Xbox 360 and I believe Microsoft was trying to cater to an entirely different audience with this new console. Honestly, the majority of my favorite games on the 360 are quite mature in content and I would not want a kid that age to be playing those yet. I am not sure of your personal feelings and I am not trying to convince you one way or another, I just wanted to warn you of this fact beforehand. Basically, check out the two game aisles and see which console has more what suits your family.

not sure if costco denied the return because MS has formally announced that the were accepting all warranty claims for three years(instead of 90 days) and returning money to those who paid for the service earlier in the year

For me I love the 360. All the kids in High School had xbox's for the xbox live, and that still lives on now after college. I can play with my friends in different states, and not just competitively, i can play a game co-op and then when my buddy needs to run he just drops out and i keep playing alone. All the while we can chat and shoot for achievements (which rock) etc...
Also, the 360 streams HD video from my laptop, downloads demos, has cheap but fun minigames, downloads tv shows, has the add on HD-DVD, and is just plain sick at multimedia. You just install the latest media player on your pc, then the 360 finds it and you can play your favorite PC music in your game.
Another plus for the 360 is that it has the best controller by far.
The wii is a joke, we only use it at parties, I bought it for the wife.
The ps3 has killer video, and does not require a monthly fee for the live service, but it's pretty rare that it works well anyway, and it does not come with headsets. As far as it having blue ray, I download most of my movies anyway, then I stream them to my tv. Or i buy them in HD on the xbox. Also, the PS3 does not have gears of war, halo, bioshock, etc. Which are pretty mush the games of this year and last.

Just anecdotal, but maybe there is something to it?

Just anecdotal, but maybe there is something to it? | From reading other forums it seems that it doesn't matter. It's the luck of the draw.

Just anecdotal, but maybe there is something to it? | I'm not familiar with what Xbox's problems are (I'm assuming overheating?) so if that's the case, standing it up seams to make sense because technically you have about 2x the surface area to help cool off.
On another note, I was reading in EGM that they've heard rumors that the best parts are going into the 360 Elite, sorta like how the computer industry works with the quality of some of the components.
