Yeah, that's the way it seems. In all honesty, I used to be one of them too, but that's certainly not the case now.
From what I've been seeing here and other sites, it seems like the more expensive the car is, the crappier the paint and interior are.
I was at a rest stop one time in my 97 Taurus. This chic pulls up next to me in a sweet black BMW (can't remember the model) chatting on her cell phone. I turn to look and there's dried bird crap, heavy swirls and dirt all over the car. My beater of a car looked so much better.
Not much you can do. For some, a car is just a way to get to point A to point B. And on the weekends, point C.
If they knew how expensive paint is, maybe...
maybe they'd take care of it a little better. Clearcoat failure isn't hardly as catastrophic to them as an engine failure.
Unless you're a detailer, that is.
