Surgery and still a clean car

Well I went in to surgery earlier this week to have a bone spur removed from my foot which means I can't drive for 10 days. So my wife has been my personal chauffeur. I usually wash both of our cars on saturday morning but being with one foot bandaged I am stuck to sitting on the couch with my foot in the air.

This morning my wife saw I was feeling down and said she would wash our cars and I could sit and keep her company and give her pointers. So she set up a chair for me and I told her all the products and methods to use, 2 hours later both our cars were clean (mine has just been sitting in the driveway all week so it just had dust and rain spots on it). I don't think she fully realized how anal I was until I walked her through all the steps I follow for washing. But she does enjoy having the cleanest car at her school (she is an elementary school teacher) and she can spot swirls on other cars in traffic. Now her family think her AND I are both crazy and wonder what is wrong with the local car wash.

I always though being taken care of would be nice, but in reality it is terrible. I don't like sympathy from everyone at work as I limp in and not being able to help around the house or anything. It sure makes a guy feel useless. I can't stand not being able to do something, it is terribly boring. Oh well, another week and I should be mobile again! Just though I would share....

Hey, hope you get better soon. At least it's good that you're recovering and will eventually be able to doing everything that you usually can.

And it's awesome that your wife offered to wash the cars for you! That's very thoughtful of her.

That's a hellova wife you got there.
I love letting friends hang out in my shop to keep me company when I work. Most of them are amazed at the process, chemicals, and technique it takes to "wash a car". My girlfriend came by yesterday and said, "you could be a mad scientist with all these tools and chemicals."

My reply: "How do you know I'm not?"

I also have a wife who now can spots problems on paint. Its amazing after a almost 2 years what a change there has been in how I used to wash and wax, and how I now prep a vehicle. I still have a lot to hear about and try, so I can improve all of the time. Did she get out the clay bar and lube? If she did that she sure is a keeper. 99% of the guys around here dont know how or what to do with a clay bar, or what it is for. RANDAL
