New Canon A630 Digital Camera

I just recently picked up a Canon Powershot A630 camera. After doing some reviews on here and on some digital camera sites and seeing some of the great pics from Autopia members I decided on this cam.

I really don't want to rely on the Auto setting but want to play with some of the manual settings to get some great photos. Can some members post what ISO and other settings you are using when shooting in the manual modes?

TIA.

Re: New Canon A630 Digital Camera

That model sounds so familiar. I think thats the one I bought for my Mo. inlaw. Does it use standard AA batteries? She had great luck with it, and I bought her rechargeable super high capacity batteries that are 2800 mah! As far as manual settings, I didn't mess with that one but I play with my cams a lot. When ever possible, I try to use ISO 100- that will give you the most color, and least graininess. However when you do that, it will force the shutter to stay open longer to get enough light for the exposure. This ends up with blurriness if it's not sunny out. For indoor use, always use ISO 50 or 100 and use the flash. ISO 400 is standard all around use. You shouldnt have much need for aperture settings unless your tryin to get lightning or the moon.

BTW I have a Lumix FX07 for all around use, and canon EOS300D for worthwhile shots. My wife uses a Fuji Z3 breast cancer awareness edition. They're all great cameras, they have their good and bad points like all cameras. I love my Lumix though with its leica lens.

Re: New Canon A630 Digital Camera

Forgot to mention, I love dpreview.com for camera info. I spend lots of time researching cameras on that site before I drop any coin on a new one. Then I go to eBay and compare each price, and start looking for which models are sold as refurbs- then I know to avoid that product line. Certain models will always fail and end up as refurbs.

Just another quick note about manual settings that I've learned. The higher the ISO setting, the more grainy it will look, but at the same time it will work in much lower lighting. So you get the picture and it's not too dark, but looks grainy.
