She was watching aerial fireworks and an ash landed in her right eye. An off-duty paramedic was on sight so he immediately washed out her eye with saline. A trip to the ER revealed that she scratched the cornea. Now we have eye drops and a follow-up at the eye doctor tomorrow afternoon. It looks much better today than last night. I doubt there's any permanent damage. Just had to vent.

I could not drive or open my eyes for 2 days and they would water all day. I can't even imagine how much more it hurts when it's burned. I got some of those medicated gel drops and some type of ointment that made my eye all sticky. It was 100% in a few days...
I hope she gets better soon!

I live in a downtown area where houses are tightly packed and go out this morning to find tons of debris in my yard-shell casings, parts, pieces, etc. Had we not had rain last night, I hve no doubt there would have been fires. When I was outside last night, I saw a good size chunk of one come down, still on fire, in my neighbor's driveway. When it hit, it showered sparks 10 feet in all directions. If it had been dry grass there would have been a major fire.
Growing up, we use to get the little bottle rockets and Roman candles, but that was the extent of things that flew. Now, they're selling what should be professionally done fireworks to individulas stupid enough to go in the street in front of their house and set them off. Where did common sense go?

Here's what I did on yesterday.
Short ribs with some Korean marinade for 2 hours.
BBQ chicken.

Every year, we watch the city's fireworks from the comfort of our home (or deck). Any/All fireworks are illegal by individuals. There's a $500 fine if caught with them. That never stops our neighbors. They had a large crowd over. Kids were lighting fireworks in a large open field (dead grass & weeds = stupid!). We heard several very-loud (M-80 like) pops, and then someone started screaming. About 10 minutes later, 3 cop cars, 1 firetruck, and an ambulance showed up. It was dark. They carried someone out on a stretcher -- whom appeared to have bandage wrapped around his head. We haven't heard exactly what happened yet. I hope no one got seriously hurt, but I also hope they learned their lesson -- just watch the excellent show the city provides for us. It's not worth the liability of somone being seriously injured, or burning someone's house down (also happens nearly very year around here).
