Angry This makes me ashamed.

This makes me ashamed to own this type of car let alone be part of that forum. They are just completely discouraging any use of clay bar or polish if you have no prior experience. This type of "positive feedback" really concerns me, there is not a product I have used that I was worried about using cause I haven't used it before. Only wetsanding am I scared of.

Wow what a bunch of misinformed members on that forum. I couldn't get past the first page as it was so wretched. I'd either try to educate them or remove my membership, it's hard to say which is the easier route. Good luck whatever you decide.

Re: This makes me ashamed.

Yeah, visiting the "detailing" threads on most boards is painful. But it just takes one Autopian on the board to inform them! Most people are willing to learn and more importantly WANT to learn how to do it right. Show some before and after shots, give some examples of your process and gain some trust. It's amazing how much of a difference one knowledgable person can make!

Wow, I've only been detailing seriously for 6 months and I feel like a master expert detailer compared to these guys. Especially the one about:

Using a clay bar is a technique that requires a good deal of skill and experience; otherwise, you'll damage the paint.

I wouldn't advise anyone to use clay on their Yaris unless they really know what they're doing. It's just too risky!

I wouldn't recommend that everyone use clay or polish.

For most of us, light wax is just fine... and it's very safe done by hand.
They wouldn't recommend clay and polish can damage the paint if you're not experienced Especially on their Yaris!!!

After reading those posts, I had to stop. My stomach was aching too much from laughing so hard. These are the very steps that NEED to be taken to take care of the paint problems.

Re: This makes me ashamed.

fstb88 : I'd send 'em a mail back saying how we're all p!ssing ourselves on this site....and thanks - it's made my day

On a serious note - maybe you should re-educate them by sticking pics of YOUR motor on there and telling 'em what products and procedures it required to get it in such an amazing condition.

The folks there need to be set straight or they'll end up believing the crap that's being spewed forth.

Re: This makes me ashamed.

So typical on car forums. Self proclaimed experts spouting half-truths and outright misinformation.

Re: This makes me ashamed.

Actually, there were only a few on there that didn't understand how to detail a car. Keesue sounded like he/she knows exactly the right way to do it, if they'll listen.

Re: This makes me ashamed.

I stopped trying to explain detailing on that forum. It's like arguing with a fence post.
