Drove thru a tornado on my way back from an Autopia meet

I left Tampa @ 4:00 and hit Haines City (between Tampa and Orlando) just shy of 5:00. Traffic crawled to a stop and the sky ahead looked green. Next thing I know the wind was blowing like crazy. It was insane, like a military convey, all the traffic was moving at 10 mph with thier blinkers on. The wind got stronger and stronger and the palm trees on the side of the road where bending so much that they almost where touching my car.

Then the rain (which was crazy) stopped, and my car was blown dry in seconds, and all I could see where brake lights and leaves flying off the trees. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner, and a white VW hatchback three cars ahead of me started to skid across lanes (traffic had stopped at this point). It felt like a 9000 lb guy climbed in the passenger seat because the suspension compressed fully on the passenger side.

I thought this was it, then suddely it stopped and started raining out hard again. Traffic resumed moving, and I got ahead of a couple people and kicked it up to 55 or so to break away from everybody else who was again going like 20.

There where cars on the side of the road for several miles, all pulled over with thier blinkers on. I went to call my wife, but of course my phone was dead. I got home a couple minutes ago and called my dad (who lives in Largo) and he told me that 3 tornado's touched down and crossed I4 (the road I was on). It was the wierdest thing I have ever experienced.

Glad to hear no one was hurt. We've had several tornados plus 80-100 mph straight line winds over the last few weeks in the Dallas area.

I was in Houston yesterday, making a stop, and the clouds were not looking good at all!
