I need some serious computer help!

I have a Toshiba M115-S3094 Notebook that I got for christmas. It's on a wireless connection that is about 40ft away. Up until about last week, the computer's wireless/internet was really fast. Click on a page and BAM, it comes up. For the past week it has been really really slow. I mean, I cant even log onto my regular forums without waiting 3-4 mins. Hell, my screensaver cant even run continuosly without stalling. I tried running virus scan, but it would not even run without stalling.

Yall got any clue as to what it could be, or any direction to go about fixin my slow arse puter?

1. Unplug your router and plug it in again.
2. Do a search on "Spybot search and destroy', and install it on your computer.

My guess is you have a ton of spyware on your computer that is slowing you down. My mother in law was having slowness issues, and I found 24 different spyware programs by using spybot. Now her computer is blazing fast again.

Re: I need some serious computer help!

Brandon,
The slowness could be either a hardware problem, a software problem, or both.
Here's the various steps I'd try, and in this order:
Hardware issues first:
1. Turn everything off. Unplug your internet connection device, either a cable modem or an adsl modem.
2. Unplug your wireless router.
Wait 30 - 60 seconds.
3. Replug your cable/dsl modem.
4. Replug your wireless router.
5. Wait 45 seconds for all indicator lights to stop flashing and going nuts.
6. Turn on your computer.

Software:
-remove internet garbage:
1. go to control panel, internet options and click on the remove files button, then do it again with the 'delete offline content ' button checked.
2. load ad-aware and spybot software (free) and have both scan and delete adware and spyware. If you need help with these two steps, let me know and I'll walk you through the process.
3. Go to 'www.bitdefender.com' and do an online scan, it's free. It'll remove any malware it finds.
4. Defrag your harddrive. Go to 'my computer'. right click on c: choose 'properties' then 'tools' then defrag. Do an analysis to see if the HD needs to be defragged. Take it's advice and defrag if it's warranted.

After all that, your machine should sing.

PM me if you need clarification on any steps. I'm doing all this from memory.
-John C.

Yes, I second what John said, in addition, did you install any software recently? If so, try uninstalling it. If not, hopefully the malware detection programs will find something, though it sounds more hw related since even your screensaver is having trouble.
