Lawn Mower Suggestions - Purchase Made

I'm in the market for a new lawn mower.

I'm looking at a Honda, but still keeping my options open at this time.

I want a walk-behind (not riding), but would like to get something that has a larger cutting width than the standard 21". What do you guys have? I'm open to any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Lawn Mower Suggestions

Honda's are sweet machines if you don't mind the $$$. My father has one. He luvs running it.

I've had a couple of TOROs...they've been unstoppable.

Re: Lawn Mower Suggestions

Years ago I gambled, took the leap of faith, and bought a huge $$ (at the time) Honda walk behind with variable speed control. (an oldie - HR215)
It was one of the best purchases I've ever made. The darn thing has been bullet proof, starts easily every spring after the winter rest, and has been reliable each and every year since I bought it.
Features I'd look for and want: rear bag, variable speed control, and blade control.

Spring for the mulching kit. It includes a blade and a plastic plug for the rear exit hole and speeds up the mowing process because you don't have to stop and empty the bag.

Get a Honda unit that meets your needs, you'll never be disappointed, and you'll never second guess your decision to buy the Honda.

You could get a sheep! it'll cut the grass and fertilize it at the same time! You can use it's wool to make wash mitts and buffing pads, and when you tire of it you can always make lamb chops!

Re: Lawn Mower Suggestions

My dad got a Cub Cadet a few years back when we made our last move. It's a nice mower with a short turning radius, cruise control and the obligatory cup holder. He recently had to buy a new battery, but that has been the only thing to go out on it.

Re: Lawn Mower Suggestions

I bought a 2 year old Honda self-propelled Harmony II mower last year for $45 at a garage sale. It was originally $470 and it shows. The mower is much better than the Scotts mowers we've owned before. Better than the Toros we've had as well. I replaced the air filter, replaced the spark plug and bought a carb kit as it leaked, but to save $400, I'll spend $25 in parts and a little time.

Mows awesome, no complaints from about their stuff.

Re: Lawn Mower Suggestions

I bought an Ariens 21" 6hp walk behind a couple years ago and love it. It always starts on the first pull, even for the first spring start up. It also has an aluminum deck so its light and will never rust out. It actually has a quick connect for your hose so when your done cutting you hook up the hose and start the mower and it washes all the wet grass out from the underside of the deck. I love it...and it was cheaper than the Hondas. I bet the Honda is a very reliable machine too...depends on much you can spend.

Re: Lawn Mower Suggestions

We've also owned an Ariens riding mower. It was everything but unreliable. It just wouldn't die, so my dad eventually sold it so he could get a new mower. Same with our old Snapper mower.

Re: Lawn Mower Suggestions

I have a John Deere right now, and it's *ok*, but I used to have a Husqvarna and there's nothing like it. I lost the Husqvarna in Hurricane Katrina, they don't float too well, lol, and I should have purchased another one just like it, but I didn't. The Greene just caught my eye!! Anyway, here's a link to a magnificent mower. It has a Honda engine in it and everything:

Re: Lawn Mower Suggestions

I have a Honda that was passed down from my dad who bought it back in 1991. It still runs like new and starts every time with no problems. They are the only mowers I will ever buy.
