It is going to be a very hard transition for many of our employees and for myself as well. It is just such a different interface and the graphical interface in Office programs is beyond useless, it is just plain confusing and unnecessary. With Mac, the incorporation of the graphical interface you find useful, with Office 2007 it just seems overboard and confusing.
I think a lot of people will love Vista because it looks pretty, but if it isn't easy to use then looks only go so far, especially with users who don't have a lot of computer knowledge.
My .02 - - By the way anyone see the new commercials Apple has launched making fun of Vista?

Everything you said is exactly how I feel and I work in IT for a living. I can't imagine how the typical end user is going to feel after being upgraded to Vista. I'm sure we'll get a lot of phone calls and requests to move back to XP.
Over the past 6 months I've been wanting to purchase a laptop to replace my old PC at home, although I wanted to get one before Vista rolled out b/c I am not real fond of Vista so far. Now that Vista is being installed on machines, it's made me back off purchasing a laptop for a while. Now, my wife has been hinting that she wants a new MacBook Pro to replace her ancient Gateway PC that she has at home. She's a Graphic Designer so she works on a Mac all day at work and loves it much more than any PC she's ever worked on. Since we are both in need of new personal machines, I'm now thinking we should just buy one MacBook Pro and call it a day. I've been on the MacBook website this week and so far I'm really liking what I've read. Plus, I've heard numerous positive things about OS X lately. Even though we'd be down to 1 machine instead of 2, I think we'd both be happier. It would fill my "need" of wanting a laptop and would fill her true need of needing a Mac.
Over the weekend, one of my friends showed me Office 2007 that he got for free from MS for watching some online presentation. I have to tell ya, I hated it just as much as I'm hating Vista.
Anyway, I think our next purchase will be a Mac instead of a PC. And just like others, I find the new Mac commercials HILARIOUS!

Re: Windows Vista... Anyone have it yet???
well, in defense of the new Office, I actually like it. I've been using the beta for a long time now, and after a bit of a learning curve, find it MUCH more pleasant to work in than the office 2k3
The radically redesigned interface is a lot more pleasing on the eyes, IMO. They really designed it with those users who have to stare at office apps all day in mind.

My girlfriend is thinking about getting it.
She just got a brand new Compaq Presario Notebook yesterday. Vista Premium, AMD Mobile 64x 2.0GHz, 1GB ram, DVD R/W, Nvidia graphics, bright screen, and a few other perks. All for $599 at Best Buy. Was really a great price.
Do you know if Office 07 can be used on multiple computers? Say she installed it on hers, can I then install it on mine as well?

mshu7, I too am in the IT field and I am not looking forward to the transition into Vista. The users are really going to be lost, and it isn't their fault really, but once they finally get the hang of Office 2003 with the pull down menus, now they are going to have to get use to the graphical in-your-face look of Office 2007. We are undecided yet on what our move will be with moving to Office 2007, with the backwards compatibility issues...it will be an eventful implemantation to say the least!
I was looking at the Apple iMac computers last night and I think I am going to make a little purchase on the 20" one within the next couple months Let me know which one you purchase!! If any of you Windows users want a Mac but also want to run windows look into the Parallels program. You can run Windows at the same time as Mac OSX without restarting your computer.

Hmm... technically speaking, the license is for one computer only. Legally speaking, you could only install it on your machine IF you uninstalled it from hers first. Actually, more techincally, since its an OEM copy (only comes with a new computer), chances are its only licensed for her system.
Beyond "legalities" however, I don't know if the new OFfice requires internet activation. I actually wasn't even aware the new Office went gold (I'm still using the beta technical refresh 2 lol). If it doesn't have to be internet activated, you can probably get away with using the key again on your system.
For legal purposes, I'll have to say that... officially... I do not condone such actions

She doesn't have it yet. We were going to buy an actual copy from Best buy or wherever.
