I post a detailing EDU for another message board and someone on maxbimmer steals it word for word.

If someone asks permission and credits me, no problem but to outright cut and paste it as your own work is wrong. I know there is a problem with picture theft too, I and several other members have been victims.

If I remember right, someone was selling Autopia stuff on Ebay they copied.

BTW, thanks to Picus for finding that post and letting me know.

Did you talked to the staf at the other forum? That guy sucks, and the worst part, he doesn't even know how to steal properly! L.O.S.E.R.

I just found a bunch of my photos on the Nevada SAAC chapter's website. Some even had my copyright on them. I called the chapter president and we came to an arrangement.

Instead of posting lousy re-compressed down-sized images, I'll send him nice high quality ones with my name and copyright clearly visible on each one.

There are some people in this world who can't get by in life without lying. I have some cousins that are like that. At first I thought it was just a childhood phase but now that we're all adults, they still constantly lie/steal/cheat. It really pisses me off too.

About a year ago I had a similar problem as you with someone stealing my auction on eBay word for word. I took the time to write the description and even gave my insight into the product. They didn't even bother to change the fonts, the colors, nothing. They even copied the links to my pictures. They could have at least copied and hosted the pics on their own.

There wasn't much I could do but to report it to eBay, but while their auction was still up I decided to have some fun. Since they linked my pics, I still had control over what pics would show up. I just wanted a quick laugh. In a matter of a few days it got a couple thousand hits. Here was the picture:

That's hilarious! I know a pic hosting sight that would turn hotlinked pics to porn (really nasty stuff too). There policy was you could post thumbs so to see the full sized pics, it was on their site with their ads.

I don't think actual pic hosting sites should use such images to chastise users who don't follow the rules, although if they are stealing your private photos (from, say, a private server), then I say you have the right to do whatever the hell you want.

Problem with changing images on a public image hosting site is that sometimes the images are linked in places where underage people may stumble across it, or even regular aged people if the image is disturbing/disgusting... like a picture of Rosie O Donell! Oh snap!

The guy who posted that thread probably had the best intentions . In fact he seems like a very reasonable guy; but he forgot the prime rule when copy/pasting; ask the author and credit them. I don't think he will forget next time judging by the way that thread is going.

I've had a lot of pic theft issues; what's funny is 90% of them hotlink directly from my site, so I can find them easily. Heh. In almost all cases when asked the person removes the pictures.
