An insight into the Canadian Ethos

99% of the Autopia members are from the United States and a few of us are from Canada.
To give your Americans a little insight into the Canadian mind set, here's an observation I noticed recently, and the circumstances were strange beyond strange. Almost an episode of the Outer Limits, but in real time, spooky for sure:

Apparently Simon Cowell, of American Idol, was quoted recently saying negative comments about Canada or Canadians. Not that that is out of the ordinary at all, Simon also mean mouthed people from Seattle.
Anyway, I was driving home on the highway recently, a big highway as Canadian standards go, and the radio was tuned to a local station. The DJs were mentioning the Simon Cowell scenario and were saying he said some nasty things about Canada and Canadians.
I was in the slow lane heading north and wondering what Simon really said. As I was thinking about this, a car passed me slowly in the fast lane, to my left, and I looked down at the bumper of the passing car. Here comes the weird part:
On the bumper was a bumper sticker, obviously new, and in response to the Simon Cowell thing. It said:

"Simon Cowell is rude - eh"

I laughed, I giggled, I thought how typically Canadian that response was. No nasty responses about how Simon sucked, or sucked bigtime, oh no. No casting aspersions on Simon's ancestry, oh no. Just a simple statement about rudeness. With the obligatory 'eh' on the end.
So, there's a little insight for you, like 'Being John Malkovich' north of 49. A window into the psyche of the typical Canadian. Enough, it's midnight and I just got back from playing rec. hockey so I'm going to go and crack a Molson's. One Molson's equals 8 Buds.

Re: An insight into the Canadian Ethos

I used to live in upstate New York just south of the beautiful city of Montreal. Molson, Labatt Blue, and our Canadian neighbors rock.....eh!

Oh yeah.................and what does Simon know anyway? Not much.

Re: An insight into the Canadian Ethos

what did he say? That's how Simon is, I don't know why people who get upset over it.

In fact, I don't know why people get so upset over everything. People need to grow thicker skins... IMHO.
