Wondering what you guys are using for the digi cameras?

Looking for a new camera and thinking about getting the canon SD630 any thoughts?

Re: Digital camera?

Canon makes a very good camera. I'm not familiar with the SD series, but check out dpreview.com. For point & shoot, the powershot A series is very good, and the digital rebel XT is a good SLR, as is the Olympus.

Here's a pic I took messing around with my new Panasonic DMC-FZ7:

Here's on of my car. Please excuse the overexposure as I'm new to photography, so I'm still figuring out how to take pictures

Like 6.3MP. But don't get hung up on the MP. Do some research to learn about how cameras work. From my reading, most all P&S cameras have a very similar sensor size. So the more MP they add, they are just cramming them into the same size sensor which apparently results in less quality pictures. I have read that 5-6 MP is really all most anyone needs with the current cameras. My camera is a superzoom at 12X optical zoom, but can also take pictures as close as 5 cm (less than two inches).

Ditto and the options are limitless. Most of the pictures in my gallery were taken with my XT.

Re: Digital camera?

I have the Kodak C875 and for a novice, I love it. It has 8mp, but what it really has is the 5x optical zoom. Plus it has super easy to use software and is on sale for like $150 at BB.

Re: Digital camera?

All of my pictures that I post in my details (including the latest of the M5 and M3) are taken with my RebelXT.

Oh, and I also can't help but brag a bit too, but my Rebel XT has won me $700 !!

First with this photograph (October winner: October Monthly Photo Contest -$500 prize):

Second, with this photograph (Bosch Ultimate Ride Sweepstakes August Winner/Finalist - $200 Prize)):

Re: Digital camera?

I 2nd the XT....I'm 95% ready to step into the DSLR market, and it's either going to be with the XT and a slightly better lense kit, or into an XTi w/ the OEM lense kit....

Re: Digital camera?

I can't decide if the bigger screen of the XTi is worth the extra money. Any other differences that would help convince me?

Btw...The SD630 is a good camera, but it depends on what you expect from your camera. If you're a point & shoot type person that likes the convenience of slipping the camera in a pocket then it will serve you well. However, if you're a serious photo buff that likes to fiddle with settings, add attachments, and are used to big zoom ranges, then this camera is not for you.
