Re: Can you paint a chrome antenna black?

You will need to scuff it up really good and use a good primer.

Re: Can you paint a chrome antenna black?

I've stripped wiper arms down to bare metal and painted them myself. They held up great. I used a wire wheel on a bench grinder and some bare metal primer after stripping was complete. Then I hit 'em with some black and a couple coats of clear. Use some good paint, let it dry thoroughly, and it should be just fine.

Scuff it with a red Scotchbrite.
Make sure there is not one shiny area left on the antenna before you spray the primer.

Re: Can you paint a chrome antenna black?

Problem with an antenna versus any other surface is the antenna will be flexing all the time. I'd sent it off to a powdercoater or get a replacement one in black.

Unless there's something very special about this antenna I'd say go to the auto parts store and buy a black replacment for a few bucks. They are cheap enough and you don't have to go through the prep and painting hassle.
