Sony Cybershot S500 6MP

hey everyone!

i was researching digital cameras online. i'm considering getting one for my girlfriend for christmas... now i'm not exactly rolling in it so i have a sort of tight budget. i found the Sony Cybershot S500 camera for $139.99 at Best Buy. i've been getting mixed reviews about it. some love it, some hate it.

So, whats your guy's opinon?...
does anyone have this camera? if so do you like it? pro & cons? could you recommend a better one similar in price?

reviews would be great! thanks for your help!

I would personally go with this Canon 6MP for $129, after Google checkout, and no tax or shipping! These cameras are sweet and the price is unbeatable! I paid more for a meager 1MP Kodak a few years ago! I prefer Canon to Sony anyhow, for overall picture quality and features.

GTP, did you take time to read Steve's review of the product...at least the conclusions??

if not, you need to do so.

I bought a cheapie SONY camera (I think it's the S90) early this year. The picture quality has been 1st class and I've had quite a few comments. People say, "ohhh, you must have taken these with your good camera". I then reply with a no and say it was taken with the cheapie. Sony may not get the recognition due for their still camera product line.

Hmm, well it was a great deal while it lasted. Price is now back up to $199. This cam was a steal at $129!

Re: Sony Cybershot S500 6MP

hey guys! thanks for all the responses!

Tom- where can i find that review? i would definately like to read it! otherwise it sounds like you've had good experience with the Sony's.

it sounds a like a lot of people have had good experience with the Canon cameras. i'll have to look into those and see whats on their line.

Mike- thanks for giving me the heads up to that deal! that would have been a steal! i'll have to keep my eye out for any other good deals on it!

thanks again everyone!

Re: Sony Cybershot S500 6MP

I personally like suggested above would rather go with a Cannon. As an A+ tech, I used to get people bringing digital cameras in quite often. I like Cannons image capturing quality to that of Sony. The colors on the Cannons just seemed more vibrant and sharp.
